Fly Half Added, As Green and Whites Host Trailfinders

Nottingham Rugby will be looking to make it four straight wins in league and cup on Friday evening, as Ealing Trailfinders visit The Bay, in Round 9 of the Greene King IPA Championship (7:45pm kick-off).

Nottingham Head Coach Ian Costello has also added a new face to the mix, in the shape of Kiwi fly-half Mitch Lam.

The hotly-tipped, 23 year-old has been brought to The Bay on a short-term contract deal, as cover for the succession of injuries suffered to Nottingham number 10s during the opening ten games of the season.

Son of former Samoa, Northampton and Newcastle number eight, and current Connacht coach Pat Lam, Mitch recently jetted over from New Zealand to join his father’s side on another interim deal, initially training with the Connacht squad and playing Ulster Bank League rugby for Galwegians, before making his debut at home to Cornish Pirates, in the B&I Cup, last month.

In other signing news, promising 20 year-old Nottingham Trent University student David Williams has committed his future to the Green and Whites by signing a contract until the end of the season, after scoring a try on his Championship debut against Bedford, at Goldington Road, two weeks ago.

Williams impressed in the narrow 36-34 win over the Blues and has kept his place on the right wing and will be looking to continue his good form, in what will be his first appearance at Lady Bay.

Harry Morley and dual-registered Leicester Tiger Charlie Thacker have been handed their first Championship starts, at loosehead and left wing respectively.

Other changes to the squad, include Toby Freeman joining Tom Holmes in the second row, with captain Ben Morris reverting to blindside flanker, in the absence of the injured Rob Langley.

On the bench, prop Tom West returns from Wasps, having featured in the opening two rounds of Anglo-Welsh Cup action for the Premiership side, whilst winger Sam Yawayawa also makes a comeback to the side, as a replacement.

Currently positioned sixth in the league standings, Nottingham will be looking to chase down third-placed Ealing, who have just five points more than Costello’s side, in what is proving to be a very tight battle for the play-off positions.

The Green and Whites came out on top in both meetings between the two sides last season, with Paul Grant grabbing a brace of tries in both of the encounters, a 34-22 road win back in November 2015 and a 22-18 victory in April of this year.
