A Castle Bytham Chef who dumped 7 bin liners full of food waste in a pub car park in the Borough has been fined £200 for fly tipping.
The man had stopped off at the Rose and Crown Pub on Main Street in Zouch on his way home from catering a private function in June this year. Without permission, he dumped 7 bags of food waste left over from the function in the pub car park. Like all businesses, the Rose and Crown have to pay for their waste disposal which can be costly. Luckily the incident was caught on camera and evidence discovered amongst the waste meant he could be traced.
Thanks to new powers which came into force in May 2016, local authorities can issue on the spot fixed penalty notices of between £150 to £400 to anyone caught illegally dumping waste. If caught and prosecuted, fly tippers face a maximum sentence of a £50,000 fine or 12 months in prison. Householders also have a responsibility to ensure that household waste produced on their property is passed on to an authorised person to dispose of, and failure to do this can result in a £5,000 fine.
