Food delivery driver threatened and has van stolen in East Leake

Police have arrested a man after a delivery driver was threatened and his van was stolen.

The driver was making a food delivery in Osier Fields, East Leake, when a group reportedly approached him and made threats before stealing his car.

A few days after the incident, which happened around 7.20pm on Thursday 17 February 2022, a car believed to be related to the incident was traced to Birkin Avenue, Hyson Green.

Whilst the driver evaded officers at the time, a search of the car then led them to track down and arrest a 25-year-old man on suspicion of robbery on Monday (28 February 2022).

He remains in custody.

Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It is unacceptable that anyone should face being threatened, and particularly whilst simply trying to do their job.

“As well as this, the driver’s car is essential to his work and livelihood, so having this taken had a huge impact on his day-to-day business. We understand how these incidents can affect victims and so we are determined to track down those responsible.

“This arrest is a great piece of work by our officers and shows their sheer tenacity and relentlessness to track down suspects, and we hope this gives the public reassurance of our commitment to investigating such reports.

“We would also advise motorists of the various steps they can take to secure their vehicle, including fitting alarms, immobilisers and keeping keys out of sight. We believe that, at the time of the incident, the keys to the car were in the ignition and opportunist criminals will almost always look for cars that are insecure or can be taken quickly.

“Our enquiries continue into the incident and we would ask anyone with information, or who witnessed the incident, to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 665 of 17 February 2022.”
