Forest fan from Oklahoma builds incredible replica of Nottingham Station with Lego

A man who lives in Oklahoma has built an accurate replica of Nottingham Station from 11,000 pieces of Lego.

Tyler Lawler is a committed Nottingham Forest fan and has loved the city since attending University of Nottingham back in 2009.

After achieving his Master of Public Health with Distinction from the university, Tyler moved back to the states.

We asked Tyler how the idea for the station and his love of Forest and the city all came about.

Tyler told The Wire how it all came about:

‘My grandmother, Margaret Lawler, née Bradbury, grew up in the Forest Fields area of Nottingham
‘My American grandfather, Murray Lawler, was a pilot in World War II.
‘While stationed in England, he met and eventually married Miss Margaret Bradbury of Nottingham.
‘My grandmother left England in 1946 and was the first war bride to arrive in North Dakota, homestate of my grandfather.

‘Fast-forward to 2009, I had recently finished my undergraduate studies at the University of Oklahoma and was considering my next move.
Tyler says the together with his dad they had ‘talked for years about visiting Nottingham so they could attend a Nottingham Forest match and decided to make it happen that February.’

He added:
‘I’ll never forget arriving at Nottingham Station for the first time.
‘I instantly fell in love with Nottingham and its character.
‘My first Forest match was an unfortunate 3-1 loss to Derby County at the City Ground, but we got to see a much-needed Forest 1-0 win at Reading the following Saturday.
‘The UK customs agent at the airport asked me “if I was here to study abroad?” and it planted a seed.
‘I went back to the states and applied for a Master program at the University of Nottingham. I was elated when I received my acceptance letter.

‘I moved to Nottingham that September. My grandmother was proud that one of her grandchildren had decided to return her roots.

Tyler then attended every match he could at the City Ground, and every possible away game in the 2009-10 season – he says it was a ‘dream come true’ to live in Nottingham and  a ‘transformative experience.’

He graduated with a Master of Public Health with Distinction from the University of Nottingham.

Tyler continued: ‘I moved back to the states, but remain smitten with Nottingham still a decade later.

‘I did stream nearly all Forest matches via my iFollow subscription, but it’s much easier now that we achieved promotion. I try to make it across the pond every one to two years to catch a match; I crave attending Forest matches live.

‘I was nearly in tears when I got to take my wife, Rachel, to a match at the City Ground in December 2018.

‘Forest lost to QPR, but Rachel very much enjoyed the City Ground. We hope to retire in Nottingham one day.

‘The last time I was in Nottingham, I attended the 2-0 victory against Leeds in February 2020 on the brink of Covid-19 pandemic. I guess in way, the Lego model is my tribute to Nottingham, a place I love so dearly.’

Tyler is interested in donating the model to the Station or another notable location, if anyone is interested please get in touch at newsdesk@westbridgfordwire.com

He plans to visit Nottingham in April and would be happy to rebuild it on location.
