Drug dealers in the city centre were sent a clear warning after a policing operation targeting dealing in the city centre returned.
Operation Guardian, a long-standing Nottinghamshire Police initiative that sees multiple officers and a drugs dog tackling dealers during the night time economy, had been put on standby owing to the pandemic.
On Friday night, it returned to great results and saw four people arrested and 24 drugs seizures in the operation.
The aim of the operation is to prevent violent crime in the city centre, by stopping the supply and use of class A drugs which when mixed with alcohol is strongly linked to violent acts.
Sergeant Graham Whitt, who leads the operation, said: “Op Guardian is a fantastic collaborative effort from officers across the force who come to help us clamp down on drug crime in the city centre.
“People should be able to enjoy a night out safely and responsibly and our presence is there to protect that while taking proactive action against drug dealers before the drugs are in wider circulation.
“The fact we had 24 seizures of drugs in our searches showed that it was a successful night and we are now investigating the people that were arrested in connection with the finds.
“The operation is also brilliant for engagement. We encourage the public to speak to us while we are out on patrol and get to know us. We want people to know we are there for them and will respond to their concerns.
“I’d like to thank the team for their efforts on Friday night.”
