Four bungalows knocked into one room house large cannabis ‘factory’

Police dismantled a cannabis grow after finding four one-bed bungalows had been knocked through to form a complete set-up.

Officers responded to a call from a member of the public that a group of men were seen running from an address in Thurgarton Street in Sneinton.

When an officer went to a side alley he got a strong smell of cannabis and found cannabis leaves on the floor.

Upon further investigation he found four individual units at the back of the property. When he opened the door to one of them there was evidence of a cannabis grow and the electricity being bypassed.

More officers soon arrived and it was found that the internal walls of all four units had been knocked through to create one big cannabis grow.

More than 200 plants were found growing in different areas along with over 200 partially-cropped plants and more than 200 plant pots containing the remnants of plants.

The operation was discovered on Wednesday afternoon (7 July 2021).

No-one was found inside.

Enquiries are ongoing into the find and those responsible. It’s believed the men seen running away may have been burglars who targeted the cannabis grow.

Police Constable Matthew Thompson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Every cannabis grow we find and dismantle helps to prevent criminals profiting from their illegal activity and keeping drugs off our streets.

“We take the production and supply of illegal drugs extremely seriously as it blights our communities and ruins lives.

“This grow appeared to be a sophisticated operation and I’m pleased we have had a positive impact by seizing drugs before they can be sold.

“The production and selling of cannabis can sometimes be perceived a victimless crime, however, that couldn’t be further from the truth.  Not only is cannabis growing illegal but it can also be extremely dangerous due to the fire risk, especially if people are living in adjoining properties. It can also be linked to wider crime such as potential modern slavery or County Lines.”

Anyone with any information about the grow or those responsible should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 276 of 7 July 2021, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
