Four teenagers arrested and machete recovered in broad daylight incident in Nottingham city centre

A police cordon is in place.

Officers were called to the scene in Cliff Road at about 12:50pm on Monday, 27 September.

Police have made four arrests after swiftly responding to a group of men, one believed to be armed with a machete, seen running down a road.

Officers were called to the incident in the Cliff Road area in the city centre just after 12.50pm today (Monday 27 September 2021).

This came after a number of calls were received by Nottinghamshire Police’s control room which resulted in uniformed officers being deployed into the area immediately. Within minutes of the calls four suspects, aged 18, 18, 18 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of affray.

A machete has also been recovered while police continue with their enquiries into the incident.

Superintendent Sukesh Verma, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We quickly arrested four suspects in connection with this incident and we have upped visible patrols in the area as officers carry out further investigations and provide reassurance.

“We are following a number of lines of enquiry, including checking CCTV footage, and are continuing to work hard to establish the full circumstances.

“While knife crime has reduced significantly in Nottinghamshire, every incident like this has the potential to be serious and can be incredibly upsetting for the community. Our priority is to keep people safe and that is why we remain committed to robustly investigating every report we receive and determined to drive down knife crime even further in Nottinghamshire.”

Anyone who saw what happened or who was any other information is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 326 of 27 September 2021, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Investigating officers would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured dashcam or mobile phone footage of the incident.
