Nottingham actors Jordan Laidley and Mitchell Ndema have teamed up with London based Jellyfish Theatre to bring a brand new outdoor interactive family show called “The Wagon of Dreams” to ten Nottingham parks from 20 to 31 July.
Support from Local Councillors and Arts Council England have made it possible to offer free shows to the local community.
Jellyfish have created an open air show as a response to the pandemic. The Wagon, an adapted 1980s caravan, has opened up opportunities to get more children involved, particularly children that typically wouldn’t have access to theatre.
Brothers, Jordan and Mitchell got involved in drama activities from a young age in Nottingham and went on to train as professional actors.
Mitchell studied drama at the University of West London and Identity School of Acting; Jordan trained at East 15 and Rose Bruford College.
“For me, drama pretty much saved me from all the negatives” said Jordan, who recently starred in Derby Theatre’s Christmas Show, “The Little Mermaid”.
The brothers were rehearsing for a tour with Jellyfish Theatre in early March 2020, when Jordan first suggested the idea of bringing a production to Nottingham.
He wanted to share some of the positivity he found as a child with his local community. Mitchell says: “I feel excited to be doing the show in Nottingham.
The arts are opening up again and I’m glad the kids get to experience this performance during these times.”
Oxford based actor/musician Catty Tucker, who joined the project in April says: “Outdoor theatre is a fantastic way for children to experience live performance. It’s more relaxed and really accessible for everyone.”
Sarah Simpson, Artistic Director of Jellyfish Theatre says: “We’ve taken a lot of care to make a show that’s Covid-secure for our audiences and performers. For Jellyfish, it’s a really exciting new way of working, although I never thought we’d be rehearsing in a field! We’re inviting parents and carers in Nottingham to come along to their local park with their children, and relax and have a laugh with us as we share all the fun and magic of a great story.”
