Friday 8 July promised excitement for the children of Pierrepont Gamston Primary School with their Summer Fair planned for that afternoon – the first one for 3 years.
However, nothing could have prepared the staff and children for an intruder arriving in school just as they were about to go in for their Star of the Week worship.
A furry creature, which later turned out to be a ferret, was first spotted in a key stage 1 classroom, before leading teachers trying to catch it on a chase through the whole school.
Eventually, it was spotted in a year 6 class.
With children safely removed and all doors closed, the ferret gave itself up and climbed into an empty box.
The ferret was taken to the local vet in the hope that it had been microchipped; however no chip was found.
Staff report that the ferret seems very friendly, indicating that it is a pet that has escaped. Everyone is desperate to reunite the pet with its owner.
If you believe that the ferret is yours, please contact the school with a full description on 0115 9819292.
