Friends of QMC sponsor Nottingham University football team

A Nottingham University football team has netted brand-new kits thanks to the support of local charity, The Friends of Queens Medical Centre (QMC).

Nottingham University Medics Football Club (NUMFC) has partnered with the Nottingham based charity and will kick off the season with a new kit thanks to their support.

The Friends of QMC was set up in 1978 and operates as an independent charity for the benefit of the staff, carers and patients of QMC. The charity exists to support the work of the QMC – it funds various initiatives and equipment applied for by staff and last year saw an ECG machine and radios being donated to the EAL ward, various refurbishments and the continuation and growth of children’s entertainment. The Friends of QMC also supports various staff members to attend courses and receive training.

The charity currently has two shops in Keyworth and at Hillside on Derby Road, Nottingham (just before the QMC). Specific items from the shops are donated to QMC’s discharge lounge enabling patients, many of whom arrive in emergency situations, to leave hospital in appropriate clothing, including coats in the winter.

Nottingham University Medics Football Club is a team made up of both students and doctors, which has been running since the 1970’s. Currently there are three men’s teams, and one women’s team, to suit all abilities. The First and Second teams both play in the local Nottinghamshire league whilst the third team play intra-mural (IMS) football against teams from other courses.

President George Lawton of NUMFC said: “We cannot say a big enough thank you to The Friends of QMC for supporting the team in this way.

“The lockdown was a tough time for all grassroots players, both physically and mentally, but getting a fantastic new kit sponsored by Friends of QMC has given the team a real boost. We hope it will encourage people to support the charity either through a donation via their website (, or by organising their own fundraiser.”

Nora  Bradley, Deputy Chair and Trustee of The Friends of QMC  said: “When we were approached by the club who were looking for a new sponsor, it felt like a good fit with the charity and we are always keen to support and get involved with the student community. It has also provided us with a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of Friends of QMC.”

As a charity, The Friends of QMC rely on the public’s generosity and are looking to recruit Trustees for their Board, people to help in their shops and people who are willing to fundraise. If you think you can help, please contact The Friends of QMC.
