The Friary in West Bridgford has put together these ideas for people with extra time on their hands.
We know you want to help with extra time on your hands at the moment – so here are some fundraising ideas to help motivate you!
This pandemic experience can leave us feeling negative at times and a little helpless but guess what? You can easily turn your efforts to help others and help yourself at the same time! This can be a time to address those niggling bad habits (if only until the end of lockdown).
Give up your favourite treats/drinks for a week (chocolate, crisps, alcohol – your choice…), calculate what you’ve saved by not going out to buy a coffee during lockdown and donate that money you’ve saved to the Friary.
You’ll feel healthier in yourself and raise funds to help people who need for the Friary to stay open – double bubble!
If you happen to have overindulged to help yourself cope with the isolation, then how about you…
– Enjoy some exercise – you may be one of those amazing people who has maintained regular exercise but how about increasing your output and asking for sponsorship or making a personal pledge to motivate you? Maybe donate what you’ve already saved on football subs/yoga classes/gym fees? Get the kids involved too!
– Enjoy new exercise – take up something new! Today, don’t delay. Need motivation? Then think how your extra activity could translate into helping feed the homeless. £3 will subsidise a food parcel at the Friary. How many parcels can you pay for? How much will your loved ones sponsor you to walk/run a mile knowing that you’ll get fitter and their money will help the homeless? We are all seeing this as a time to reset our priorities. Helping others can be part of this.
– Establish a routine through exercise. If you’re out of work and at home you’ve probably lost your routine. Predictability is a stress buster, doing set things at set times of day will help refuel your tank and re-energise you. Taking regular exercise can create routine. These are difficult days so making the most of your time is important. When stuck at home we can quickly become physically deconditioned, we can lose our sleep patterns maybe stay up too late. So how about sponsoring the kids/grandkids to get to bed on time for a week and you match-funding by doing the same? Structuring just one hour of our day and dedicating it to moving around more and starting or increasing the amount we exercise is good for us.
– Barbers have been closed and we’ve all seen interesting results on social media! Not leaving the house much? If you really don’t want to shave for a week (or two) then at least get sponsored for each day and raise money for a good cause. Send us some pics of before and after!
Guess the number of sweets in a jar – get the kids involved. Use social media to promote what you’re doing and raise awareness of the Friary at the same time. www.the-friary.org.uk
Take pledges for gardening or mowing your neighbour’s lawn! Be inventive. Raise awareness for us. Keeping your social distance of course!
– Homeless people are struggling to find the motivation to carry on, we at the Friary need to stay open to meet them and help them deal with highly charged emotions and their hunger. You have what it takes to help us. Think about it.
Homeless maybe, but never hopeless, we all have something to give.
