Further chance to have your say on a new political map for Rushcliffe Borough Council 

The Local Government Boundary Commission is proposing new boundaries for seven council wards in two parts of the borough.

The first is the North-Eastern section of the borough, covering the Bingham North, Bingham South, Cranmer, East Bridgford, and Newton wards. The second covers the South-East of the borough, containing Cropwell, and Nevile & Langar wards.

The Commission is satisfied that it has received sufficient evidence in earlier rounds of consultation to finalise new ward boundaries for the rest of Rushcliffe. The Commission is not seeking submissions about any other part of the borough. A full set of final recommendations for the council will be published in May 2022.

The Commission wants to hear what residents and local organisations think about the proposals. A four-week consultation on the proposals will run until 29 March 2022.

The Commission is the independent body that draws these boundaries. It is reviewing Rushcliffe to make sure councillors will represent about the same number of electors, and that ward arrangements reflect community identity and will help the council work effectively.

The Commission has published proposals for changes to the areas in the north-east and south-east of the borough.

It is proposing that there should be two single-councillor wards in South-Eastern Rushcliffe; and two two-councillor wards and three single-councillor wards in North-Eastern Rushcliffe.

Proposed changes include:

• Four single member wards surrounding the town of Bingham in opposed to two large two-member wards.

Launching the consultation Professor Colin Mellors, Chair of the Commission, said:

“We are publishing further recommendations for a new pattern of wards across the areas to the north-east and south-east of the borough, and we are keen to hear what local people think of the recommendations.

“We want people in Rushcliffe to help us.

“We have drawn up further proposals for new wards in the North-East and South-East of the borough. We want to make sure these new electoral arrangements reflect communities. We also want them to be easy to understand and convenient for local people.

“Residents and local organisations can help us do that. We would like them to let us know whether they agree with our proposals before we take final decisions.
