GCSE Results: Nottingham Emmanuel School celebrates GCSE results

PUBLISHED:

There was an atmosphere of great excitement at The Nottingham Emmanuel School as students collected their GCSE results today.

Analysis of the latest results show that the majority of students again gained strong passes in Maths and English. Principal Derek Hobbs says, “We congratulate our Year 11 students on the excellent results they have achieved, and we are looking forward to welcoming many of them into our Sixth Form, where outcomes in 2018 have far exceeded national averages.”

There were some notable results at the school including students’ Ismael Dembele (9, 9, 9, 9, A*,8, 8, 8,7,7), Anna Harrison (9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 6), Sara Rabhe (9, A*, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 6), Nihad Nassr (9, 9, 9, A*, 8, 8, 8, A, 7, 7) and Caleb Kent who achieved (9, A*, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, A, 7, 6).

Mr Alistair Kent, father of Caleb (9, A*, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, A, 7, 6), said he was pleased for his son. “His results are fantastic. He has always been reasonably confident when it comes to results day, but you never quite know, so we are all relieved. He has worked really hard and we are fortunate that he is very self-motivated. He is also competitive with his older sister and will compare results! Overall, we are very, very, pleased.”

Student Ismael Dembele (9, 9, 9, 9, A*,8, 8, 8,7,7) waited for mum Ami Dembele to join him before he opened his results. “I did a bit better than I expected, especially the 9 in Physics and 9 in Geography. I didn’t open the envelope straight away, partly because I was waiting for my mum, and also, because I didn’t want to open it!

Ismael Dembele (9, 9, 9, 9, A*,8, 8, 8,7,7) and delighted mum Ami Dembele.

The teachers here have been supportive, and I will stay on for sixth form, but haven’t decided on my subjects yet.” Mum Ami Dembele said she was proud of Ismael. “I really don’t know how to say what I am feeling. I am so proud, he did so well to get such fantastic results. I would like to say thank you to all of the teachers for their help. He is a good student and he has been really focused, I am very proud!”

Student Sade Benjamin was so surprised at her results that she let out a joyful scream and cried with joy. “We did everything we could and worked really hard. But I was still so surprised with my Maths result because it is something I have always struggled with; but if you put your faith in God and motivate yourself, it shows you that anything can happen. I was overwhelmed with emotion and when I shared the news with my mum, she reacted just like I did, with emotion!”

Sade’s supportive group of friends includes Mandipa Palhani, she said, “I am really pleased with my results. We all did well because we supported each other and any time that one of the group needed help, we were there for each other.” Mamasa Cisse agrees that being in a strong group of friends helps.

“I was really pleased with my results, but without the support of my friends and family I am not sure that it would be the same. I was trying to open my results when I heard Sade scream, and I didn’t know whether she was happy or sad!”

Tawina Godwa wants to become a criminal psychologist but was unsure about how she had fared. “I was really surprised and looking back I think I had low expectations for myself. Clearly, I was capable of more and was wrong! I must say though that Sade’s scream scared me when I heard it. We are all very emotional at the moment!”

Mr Jonathan Saunders, Assistant Principal at The Nottingham Emmanuel School said the results outperformed expectations, “We are very proud of our students, whose resilience, determination and work ethic has brought about excellent results and also proud of the team of teachers who supported them through new, and more challenging qualifications.”
