The gladiator Steel is known as a formidable force that fills competitors with fear. However, his visit to a local primary school seems to have had the opposite effect on local children!
Pierrepont Gamston Primary School welcomed Steel into their classrooms to listen to how transforming the way he ate, drank, breathed and, most importantly, thought – changed him from a nervous and reluctant teenager into the superstar he is today.
As well as talking to the whole school about his journey and advice (and showing the children his signature handstand walk in assembly), he gave all children an opportunity to ask him questions in class. He even arm-wrestled a teacher… who lost!
The morning was finished off with a ‘working lunch’ (roast dinner – everyone’s favourite, including Steel’s) with Pierrepont Gamston’s Young Leaders. These are the school’s Year 6 superstars who help the younger children with organised activities at lunchtimes. Steel said on TikTok that this was his personal highlight of the visit and one he wants to replicate in other schools.
Young Leader Hollie said that he gave her lots of tips for how to support and encourage the younger children. Another Young Leader, Aarya, added, “I really appreciated him explaining how he’d used sport and healthy eating to boost his confidence.”
The visit was funded by the school’s thriving PTA (Parent-Teacher Association), who raise funds to support the children in their life at the school.
