A suspect has been arrested after bricks and a glass bottle were thrown at police.
Officers were called to Derby Road, Lenton, at around 12.05am today (1 November), following reports of a disturbance.
When approached by police, a man started acting aggressively and threw a glass bottle at an officer who was trying to calm him down.
After attempting to flee along nearby Bute Avenue, the man picked up two bricks and hurled them towards two pursuing officers.
Both objects missed the officers and instead smashed the windows of two parked cars on the street.
A 52-year-old man was then arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and causing criminal damage.
Inspector Peter Shaw, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a potentially very dangerous incident that could’ve easily resulted in one of our officers being injured.
“Its important people realise that throwing a missile at a police officer as happened here will be treated as an assault.
“Emergency workers are there to help people and keep them safe, so really don’t deserve to be treated in this hostile manner.
“It is not simply part of an officer’s job to be assaulted or threatened while trying to do their job – this type of behaviour is not okay.
“On top of this, two cars were also damaged during this incident, which is completely unacceptable.
“We’ve now arrested a suspect in connection with this incident, but our inquiries remain ongoing, so we’d ask anyone who saw what happened to come forward.
“Anyone with information can contact the police on 101, quoting incident 7 of 1 November 2022, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
