The warning comes after several drone pilots were found to be contravening a temporary airspace restriction over the site, having relied solely on their drone’s flight app for guidance.
The restriction covers a 750 metre radius of the event and makes it an offence to fly a drone anywhere in that perimeter between 26 September and 5 October.
Six drone pilots have been spoken to so far, with officers offering words of advice.
Police do, however, have the power to seize equipment and take other enforcement action.
Sergeant Vince Saunders, chief drone pilot, said: “We know drones are now a favoured tool of photographers and filmmakers.
“We also know the Goose Fair offers some spectacular photographic opportunities – especially at night.
“But drone flights above major public events like this pose an unacceptable risk to members of the public and are simply not allowed.
“So far we have been taking a more educational approach to this issue, but will move to enforcement action if these flights continue.”
All temporary restrictive zones can be found via Drone Assist / Drone Scene apps, which contain live maps displaying all the airspace restrictions pilots need to be aware of.
Drone users can also visit websites to check for restrictions, and can also find further guidance about the safe operation of drones from the Civil Aviation Authority.
The current restrictions extend to Albany Road to the North, Cramer Street to the East, Walter Street to the South, and Radford Road to the West.
Contravening this restriction is a criminal offence that can lead to prosecution and a fine.
