Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards has issued a statemment after Gotham Memorial Hall was destroyed by a fire today.
The hall and a GP surgery were damaged in the blaze in Gotham this morning.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service updated this evening:
‘We have scaled down the incident to one fire engine from East Leake Fire Station.
‘A fire investigation will take place tomorrow into the cause.
‘We want to thank local residents for their patience.’
Ruth Edwards MP told The Wire:
‘I was shocked to see the pictures of the village hall on fire.
‘I know how central it is to the community in Gotham and I’ve used it for public meetings myself. With the doctors’ surgery and the library damaged too, it’s an awful blow for the village. I’ve spoken to the Chair of the Parish Council, Gill May, and I want to thank her and her team for all the work they are doing to make sure provision is made for residents to access their GP and get prescriptions.
‘I will help in any way that I can.
‘I’d also like to thank Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service for their work tackling the fire.’
