Funding of £70,000 will be shared equally between Nottingham and Derby city councils.
The funding is from Keep Britain Tidy Chewing Gum Taskforce.
The council said:
‘The project is fully funded by Keep Britain Tidy and will enable both Nottingham and Derby City Councils to deliver a programme of gum removal activities in the core city centres.
‘NCC cleansing teams currently have over seven and a half thousand square feet of alleyways within the city centre to cleanse daily as these are public right of ways and are used frequently.
‘In the city centre, there are a number of streets identified in need of gum removal and cleansing activities to take place.
‘The Public Realm service currently has the specialised equipment required for undertaking this task and the funding will enable us to resource this at no additional cost to NCC.’
