Green light given to explore new £2.5m Recycling Centre for Rushcliffe

Nottinghamshire County Council has put forward proposals to develop a new £2.5m Household Waste and Recycling Centre on council-owned land in Rushcliffe.

Following a discussion at today’s Communities and Place Committee (1 October), councillors have given the green light for detailed plans to be drawn up and a planning application to be prepared for the Centre, which will be located on the former Cotgrave colliery site, off Hollygate Lane.

It is proposed that the new site will give easy access to residents across the whole of Rushcliffe, especially those living in or near Cotgrave, Bingham, Radcliffe on Trent, Keyworth, Ruddington, Gamston and the surrounding villages.

Councillor Phil Rostance, Vice Chairman of the Communities and Place Committee said: “We are fully committed to delivering an additional recycling centre for Rushcliffe. The new facility will be an investment in making sure that we are providing a service fit for the future and to meet the needs of a growing population with the anticipated housing growth in the local area.

“Nottinghamshire County Council has an ambitious and far reaching environmental strategy which I’m committed to supporting. This new site will also help to alleviate some of the current issues we are seeing at the West Bridgford site in terms of capacity. This situation has been exacerbated during the pandemic.

“The new modern site which is expected to handle around 5000 tonnes of waste per year will meet the needs of local people in a safe and sustainable way.

“Surveys and design options will now be explored to ensure all local traffic and environmental issues are considered, and we will look to develop the proposals so a planning application can be submitted this Autumn. This will include a public consultation before any final decisions are made.

Councillor Rostance concluded: “I know that many residents will welcome this news as I’ve seen first-hand how committed we are as a county to recycling, and I’m keen that this can continue.”
