A cannabis grower has been jailed after police dismantled a drugs factory operating inside a Nottingham home.
Response officers raided the property in Hendon Rise, St Ann’s, around 9am on Tuesday (17 September) after gathering intelligence about the property.
When they forced open the front door, officers found the downstairs had been turned into a living and sleeping area for whoever was tending to the grow.
Upstairs the home had been turned into a cannabis factory, with around 50 plants being grown across two rooms.
It was also discovered the electricity supply to the home had been bypassed and cables were found hanging from the ceiling throughout the upstairs rooms.
Twenty-six-year-old Kristo Hortia was found inside the property and was arrested by officers.
Hortia, of Hendon Rise, was charged with the production of a Class B drug.
He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (18 September) and was jailed for six months.
Sergeant Scott Loughran, of the St Ann’s response team, said:
“Our officers have worked hard to gain intelligence about this property and our suspicions were proved to be accurate when we carried out the raid.
“This has allowed us to put this drugs production factory out of action and prevent further issues and wider criminality in the community.
“This was an extensive grow and worth a lot of money to the criminals behind the enterprise.
“I’d urge other people to be on the look-out for grows like this.
“Please look out for any windows which are blocked with either tape or thick curtains, a persistent sound from fans and smells from the plants.
“If you notice similar where you live please get in touch with police on 101 so we can execute warrants and take other positive action as we have done here.”
