Gun and ammunition discovered after car stopped in Netherfield

Police Officers in Netherfield stopped and searched a car leading to the discovery of a gun and ammunition.

Officers spotted the suspicious car in Bourne Mews in Netherfield at around 9pm on Wednesday 21 April and quickly moved to investigate.

When they searched the car, they recovered a revolver and quickly arrested a man and a woman who were with the vehicle.

Today (Friday 23 April), Darren James, 35, of Netherfield, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of a firearm when prohibited for life, possession of ammunition when prohibited for life and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life in connection with the incident.

Superintendent Mat Healey, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Firearms offences are incredibly serious and we will always look to take appropriate action against offenders.

“Officers did an excellent job to take swift action to recover a firearm and ammunition and remove them from circulation.

“Any incident where a firearm is safely recovered means that a life-threatening weapon has been taken out of the hands of those who may go on to use it to cause fear, injury or death.

“We work closely with local communities to gather intelligence about serious criminal activity and I would ask that if any has any concerns in their local area to report it to police on 101 or in an emergency, dial 999.”

James was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance
