Winwood Heights, Nottingham’s newest retirement village, is due to open in Sherwood’s Woodthorpe Park in June this year.
The development comprises 223 apartments for older people, spread across three interconnected buildings – two existing tower blocks, which have been extensively refurbished, plus a new build, 44-bed Extra Care Centre for older people who want to continue to live independently but may have additional care needs.
Nottingham City Homes (NCH), who manages the site on behalf of Nottingham City Council and has delivered the £11m of refurbishment and new build works to create the retirement village, is now looking to secure hairdressing (and possibly complementary therapy) services to establish an onsite salon for residents.
NCH is inviting interested parties to bid to operate from the two-station salon that has been created within the retirement village. Initially, the successful bidder will be based there for three years, with NCH having responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of all equipment provided.
Hairdressing services need to be provided to both male and female clients on an appointment and a drop-in basis. Non-residents may also be able to use the salon.
NCH is open to other appropriate services such as beauty, complementary therapies, chiropody and so on being provided too, whether by the hairdressing team or a separate concern.
Jenny Thirtle-Denman, who lives at Winwood Heights, welcomes the idea of an on-site hairdresser, and says, “Having facilities such as this actually within Winwood Heights itself would make a huge difference to so many of the residents here. It would also make a great contribution to the feeling of community that we have, and that we work hard to maintain and develop. I really look forward to seeing the new salon up and running.”
