Hannah Owens previously trained as a forensic scientist and had a successful career with Nottinghamshire Police. Then she decided to take a different direction…
However, after several years she began to realise that a change in direction was in order and when she sat down to try and work out what would make the most fulfilling career change she realised that her keen interest in property was the answer.
A few months later she answered a recruitment advert by Rex Gooding and the rest is history.
Four years later, she is happily part of the team at Rex Gooding Commercial, employed as a trainee surveyor, and has already completed the first year of her masters degree in Real Estate at Nottingham Trent University. Her next move is to complete her APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) to become a chartered surveyor.
Hannah is no stranger to hard work, as her academic qualifications prove, and the fact that she has flourished in her new career at Rex Gooding Commercial is testament to her resilience and drive.
Qualities she has developed over many years in the police and which have transferred to the world of property seamlessly, as Chloé Gooding commercial partner at Rex Gooding explained: “Hannah is a real attribute to our team, she is a strong negotiator with an enthusiasm to learn, she is committed to our ethos of providing a good service to clients”.
Rex Gooding is probably best known for its residential sales and lettings business, but it also manages a large portfolio of commercial properties for clients and has a strong track record in acquisitions, disposals and landlord and tenant negotiations.
Part of the reason that Hannah enjoys being part of the team at Rex Gooding is because it is a long-established family business that is committed to developing its staff and providing them with opportunities to advance their careers.
Hannah said: “Before I joined Rex Gooding, I only really knew that it was an estate agency I used to drive past in West Bridgford, so prior to the interview I did some research and realised that it was an independent family business which offered a wide range of property services.
“When I joined there were just eight of us in the West Bridgford office and now we’ve expanded to larger premises in West Bridgford and opened new premises in Bingham, with a staff totalling 22.”
As a trainee chartered surveyor Hannah’s workload is varied, including valuing properties for disposal, winning new instructions and finding the right tenant or purchaser for a property.
Hannah continued: “It’s really satisfying when you’ve been involved with a letting or sale and then you re-visit the property later and can see the changes to the building and how the new tenant or owner is making that space work for them. I enjoy that I get to see the process from the very beginning, taking the initial phone call to request the valuation all the way through to handing keys over to the new occupier.”
Hannah has trained under chartered surveyor and registered valuer, Chloé Gooding, who has been involved in commercial property for the best part of 20 years, starting out at Lambert Smith Hampton and moving on to Pizza Hut before joining the family business over ten years ago. Chloe has worked with large retailers including O2 and has also worked on ng2 business park, whose tenants include Experian, Homebase and Geldards.
