Hare coursing incidents and illegal fishing reported in Rushcliffe

PC Kemish and PCSO Evans from Rushcliffe South Neighbourhood Policing Team have been on proactive rural patrols this afternoon following reported incidents of illegal fishing and hare coursing.

Operation Traverse tackles illegal fishing and waterside ASB along rivers, lakes and waterways – officers have once again been patrolling Cotgrave Country Park Lake, checking rod licences and engaging with those fishing this afternoon following a number of illegal fishing reports in recent months

Officers have also been on rural patrols in the Langar, Barnstone and Cropwell Bishop areas following recently reported incidents of hare coursing – as well as coming across some of the region’s other animals.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant regarding possible hare coursing incidents as this not only causes distress and harm for local wildlife but also causes significant damage to private land, gates and other items owned by local land owners or farmers.

Police say that further rural patrols will continue to take place over the coming weeks and members of the public are encouraged to report these incidents to police by calling 101 or 999 where a crime is in progress or in an emergency.

When reporting an incident members of the public are encouraged to use the What 3 Words app on their mobile device, this pinpoints your exact location and gives it a 3 word tag – this is extremely useful for officers responding to rural crime with no obvious point of reference.
