Nottingham-based roller derby league Nottingham Hellfire Harlots will be hosting a roller derby double header on 9th June.
After a brilliant start to the year, which saw their A team crowned champions at French tournament West Track Story, they are looking to continue that success at their first home game of the year.
The double header will see Nottingham’s A team take on Middlesbrough Roller Derby in a WFTDA sanctioned game, while the B team will play Hertfordshire Hell’s Belles Roller Girls.
It has been three years since Nottingham’s A team met MBRO in Belgium and with Middlesbrough ranked 74th in the world, compared to their 104th ranking, it promises to be an exciting and challenging game.
With the growth of their A team, Nottingham has been able to grow a strong B team who will be taking on the currently unknown to us Hertfordshire Hell’s Belles Roller Girls.
“Roller derby is gaining more awareness in the UK, with the Roller Derby World Cup being hosted in Manchester earlier this year. This double header is a brilliant opportunity for us to showcase both the sport and our league to our home city. As we don’t often get an opportunity for both the A and B team to play together, this double header will be an exciting day”, says Tara McCarthy, one of Nottingham Hellfire Harlot’s founding members.
“The whole league is still buzzing from our tournament win in April,” comments Jo Scott, A team captain.
“Both our A and B team have grown from strength to strength this year, and we’re not going to slow down any time soon. Both Middlesbrough and Herts Hell’s Belles are formidable opponents so both games promise to be action-packed”, Jo continues.
The event will be hosted at Lee Westwood Sports Centre, Clifton and run from 12.15 – 5pm, June 9th. Tickets are available in advance here.
