Rowntree Equine Therapy CIC has secured planning permission to build a purpose-built, fully accessible Equine Therapy Centre in Nottinghamshire and has launched a £100,000 Crowdfunder campaign to help deliver the project.
Granted in late 2025, the planning approval marks a significant milestone for the not-for-profit organisation, which aims to create one of the most inclusive equine therapy facilities in the UK. The centre will support people with disabilities and mental health challenges, using equine-assisted therapy to improve wellbeing, confidence, and social connection.

The project has has secured interest from local organisations, including Portland College and the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). Once operational, the centre is expected to support around 200 people each year.

Rowntree Equine Therapy CIC delivers structured equine-assisted therapy programmes that combine physical activity, emotional support, and skills development. The new facility will be designed with accessibility at its core, ensuring participants of all abilities can take part safely and comfortably.

Plans for the site include:
• A six-stable yard built to modern veterinary and welfare standards
• A fully accessible riding arena with adaptive equipment
• Indoor therapy and education spaces for wellbeing sessions and training
• Wheelchair-accessible facilities throughout
The centre will also offer learning and development opportunities in partnership with local organisations, supporting both therapeutic outcomes and longer-term independence.
The project is supported by Roodsafe Ltd, which has joined as a sponsor. Simon Rood, Managing Director of Roodsafe Ltd, a business based in Nottingham, said:
“We’re proud to support Rowntree Equine Therapy CIC and the creation of a centre that puts accessibility and inclusion first. Securing planning permission is an important step forward, and this project has the potential to make a lasting difference to individuals and families across the area.”
The Crowdfunder campaign will raise funds for construction and specialist accessibility features, ensuring the centre meets high standards of safety, welfare, and inclusivity.
The site is located in Longdale Lane, Ravenshead, where a training area and paddocks already exist.
