The Good Weigh West Bridgford – How have Covid lockdowns affected Rushcliffe businesses?

A series of articles looking at businesses across Rushcliffe and how they have coped during lockdowns.

Firstly we caught up with Kate Cox, who owns The Good Weigh in Lady Bay.

The shop opened in July 2019 on Trent Boulevard as a zero-waste shop, customers take their own containers to the store and have them filled up with food items to eliminate single-use plastic.

Speaking of how the pandemic and lockdowns have affected the business, Kate told us:

‘With regards to the latest lockdown, this hasn’t really affected me.

‘As an essential shop, we have been able to operate throughout and were early adopters of social distancing from the beginning back in March 2020…I can’t believe its been nearly a year!

‘Because of the size of the store, we have been limiting numbers to one person or one household bubble of up to three people at any one time to keep infection chances to a minimum.

‘Customers are all asked to sanitise their hands on arrival and to ensure all containers have been thoroughly cleaned.

‘Since Covid-19 hit us, we have been offering a free delivery service in the NG2 area for orders over £10 as well as a “drop & collect” service.

‘This means you can avoid the queues and minimise contact if you’re trying to shield. You just drop in a bag with labelled containers and we fill up. Customers are notified by text when their order is ready for collection (usually with a few hours).

‘As someone who is classed as a key worker, I feel very lucky to have my girls in school part time.’
