How Rotary Club of Rushcliffe supports Ukraine effort

Residents all over Rushcliffe have been supporting the support effort.

Support for Ukraine

Together with many other organisations, the Rotary Club of Rushcliffe has been playing its part in helping people caught up in the war in Ukraine.

Through donations from members, the Club’s Benevolent Fund, the Inner Wheel Club and members of the public, some £4,000 has been sent in support of the aid effort.

Due to a direct link with the Rotary Club of Warsaw, funds were transferred within days of the start of the conflict and vital medical equipment purchased and transported to Lviv in Ukraine.

Support more locally

Members continue to provide support at the Friary Centre and organise and run a Memory Café in West Bridgford.

In Keyworth the Litter Volunteer Group resumed its monthly pick in March, filling 21 bags with litter from the village and surrounding roads.

Work with local food banks continue each week.

The photos show two members of the club delivering 415 kg of food to the Cotgrave Community Kitchen and fitting security grills at the same facility.

Following the success of the Christmas Sleigh Collections the club has been able to make donations to Prostate Cancer, Rainbows Hospice, Aquabox, Keyworth and District Community Concern, Bleed Kits and Ruddington Baptist Church (defibrillator).

Opportunities for Individuals and Community Groups

The club offers a limited number of grants to individuals and groups within the community, who are engaged in projects at home or abroad. Individual grants usually range from £50 to £300. When considering an application, the club makes reference to the following criteria: –

  1. the link the individual or group has with the local area
  2. the extent to which the project has a humanitarian, environmental or educational focus.
  3. the extent to which the project supports disadvantaged groups within the community.

Applications can be made through the club website or directly to the Committee Chair kipherrington1945@gmail.com
