Huge blaze on sand dunes at Skegness beach

Five fire engines were sent to Skegness beach after a fire broke out near the seafront on Friday evening (17 July).

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service said it received the first report of the blaze at 7.20pm.

Crews tackled the fire, which caused significant damage to more than 1,000 square metres of shrubbery before being fully extinguished.

Images and footage posted on social media showed large plumes of smoke drifting from the sand dunes towards Skegness Pier.

Members of the public were advised to stay away from South Parade car park and the beach while firefighters dealt with the incident.

The cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed.
