Wilford and Iremongers Pond have seen a lot of fantastic reactions over the past few years as beautiful areas of nature and recreation.
That’s all been damaged recently by anti-social, illegal and dangerous drug use which has crept into the area. The local community responded with a show of unity and wonderful spirit.
A spokesperson said:
‘Our wonderful community responded (as they have been for years) with a show of force. A wonderful team of socially distanced residents joined together to safely clean up the area.’
Several bags were collected by residents for safe disposal. Every month Wilford’s Litter Picker Champions meet at 8am on the second Saturday of the month outside of The Ferry Inn and on the 4th Saturday of the month outside of The Tailors Arms, as they have done since 2018!
The council and police work together to tackle incidents like this.
Police Sergeant Nigel Bradley, of Nottinghamshire Police said: “The neighbourhood policing team is committed to tackling crime in the Wilford area with a heavy focus on drugs as this has been highlighted as a community concern.
“Local officers have executed warrants in the area under the Misuse of Drugs Act and we continue to target drug supply into the area.
“We rely on intelligence-led policing with information from the community which helps identify and target those people suspected to be involved in drug crime.
“Our action will continue as we target those individuals suspected to be involved in the production and supply of drugs in our communities.
“We remain as committed as ever to taking illegal drugs off our streets, and my message to anyone involved in their supply is still very clear: we’re watching you and it could be you next.
