Police set up metal detectors at points in the city centre last week.
Police said:
‘Last week officers from the Nottingham city centre based Operation Reacher and Operation Compass teams set up metal detectors on Station Street near to one of the entrances to the train station.
‘A detector was also set up on Lister Gate near to the site where the Broadmarsh Centre used to be.
‘Hundreds of people passed through the metal detectors throughout the course of the morning and they were well received.
‘Many members of the public commented that they found it reassuring to see officers out in uniform as a visible presence and thought the metal detectors were a fantastic deterrent for anyone attempting to bring weapons into the city centre.
‘During the morning three adults were found to be in possession of cannabis and a man and woman were found to be in possession of stolen goods. Another known prolific shoplifter was given a 48 dispersal notice banning him from entering Nottingham city centre in order to prevent any further thefts from occurring.
‘During the course of the day the combined proactive teams conducted further foot patrols of the city centre where they located and arrested two people wanted for court related matters, and conducted a number of stop and searches resulting in drugs being seized.’
