Ilkeston murder: Teenager charged after man stabbed

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder after the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Noah Smedley in Ilkeston on Saturday, 28 December.

Police were called to Heanor Road at 8:20 pm by East Midlands Ambulance Service following reports of a man collapsed in the road. Despite efforts, Noah Smedley succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 9 pm.

The 17-year-old charged with murder has also been charged with possession of a bladed article. Due to his age, he cannot be identified for legal reasons. He is set to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Wednesday, 1 January.

In connection with the investigation, four other 17-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of murder. One has been released on bail pending further enquiries, while the other three have been released with no further action.

Additionally, two 16-year-old girls were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. One has been released on bail pending further enquiries, and the other has been released with no further action. A 52-year-old man, also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are appealing for anyone with information or footage to come forward. A Major Incident Public Portal has been set up for the public to provide information and submit footage.
