The rider of an illegal electric motorcycle was pursued and arrested after colliding with a police car and falling from his machine.
Officers on routine patrol spotted two electric motorcycles in Hucknall Road, Sherwood, at around 1am on Thursday 20 November.
Both failed to stop after being instructed to do so – leading to a brief pursuit through surrounding streets.
After coming head-to-head with the crew of an unmarked Armed Response Vehicle in Hucknall Road, the rider of one of the bikes veered onto the pavement, where he found his path blocked.
He then struck the front of the car and fell to the ground before trying to flee on foot. He was chased down and detained.
An extendable baton was also recovered.
A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, driving without due care and attention, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, and possessing an offensive weapon.
His Sur-Ron bike was also seized and now faces being crushed.
Inspector Chris Chell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Sur-Ron bikes and other devices without pedals are not electric bicycles – they are motorcycles and come with all the risks and responsibilities that come with riding one.
“The young man in this case chose to ride that motorcycle without proper lights – and with only a balaclava and woolly hat to protect his head in the event of a high-speed collision.
“He now faces criminal prosecution, points on his licence, and the permanent loss of a machine that I am sure cost him a lot of money.
“On the plus side, this run-in with our officers may at least have prevented him causing serious harm to himself or others.”
