Rushcliffe Borough Council has secured a further three-month closure on an illegal mobile home site, linked to stolen goods and criminal activity.
The Storage Yard in Sutton Bonington had been found with stolen cars, drugs and a stun gun earlier this year, before the authority secured a closure order at its Rempstone Road base at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court in February.
This extended period of closure granted on May 18 will ensure anti-social behaviour and illegal activity does not recommence on the site.
It will also provide additional time for the local authorities to ensure the site is returned to its lawful use.
The original Closure Order for the site was secured in conjunction with Nottinghamshire Police, who raided the premises on February 14, resulting in four arrests as well as the discovery of unsafe and unhygienic living conditions.
The arrests included two women, aged 43 and 30, and two men, aged 37 and 29. They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.
The yard is now closed for a further three months. Any individual entering the site is liable on conviction to up to 51 weeks imprisonment.
A Planning Enforcement Notice has been served to address the unlawful residential use of the site and the Council are working with the landowners, who were not involved in the illegal activity, to secure the removal of the remaining mobile homes.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environment and Safety Cllr Rob Inglis said: “The extension to the site’s closure demonstrates our commitment to taking action for the benefit of safer communities, wherever possible.
“This additional three months will enable us to ensure the site is returned to lawful use.”
