Image released after brick thrown from bridge injured tram driver

Police have issued CCTV images of two youths they want to speak to after a tram driver was injured when a brick dropped from a bridge smashed its windscreen.

It’s believed a group of people dropped the brick from the Church Street bridge, Old Basford, into the path of the oncoming tram causing damage to its front windscreen.

The tram driver was covered in glass and sustained minor facial injuries.

 

Inquiries are ongoing into the incident and to trace those responsible after it happened around 7pm on Tuesday 4 June 2024.

PC Ted Hayes, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a senseless act that could have had devastating consequences and I’m just grateful the driver didn’t suffer more serious injuries and no passengers were injured.

Anyone who has any information should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 646 of 4 June 2024 , or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“If you did this, and perhaps you didn’t realise what happened as a result of dropping that brick, please do the right thing and come forward to police.

“An investigation is ongoing to find those responsible and we have now issued CCTV images of two youths we want to identify and speak to in connection with this incident. 

“I’m urging anyone who knows who they are or may recognise them from their clothing to please get in touch.”
