Image shared after iPhone stolen and cash transferred from Apple Pay account

Police have issued an image of a man they’d like to identify after a shopper tried to spend vast sums using a stolen mobile phone.

A man was enjoying a night out in Nottingham when he realised his phone was no longer in his possession.

The phone was later used at several stores including Argos in Leicester, with money also transferred from the victim’s Apply Pay account.

The largest attempted transaction was for £999 which was thankfully declined. However other transactions for lesser amounts did go through.

Officers are keen to speak to the man in this image as it is believed he will be able to assist their inquiries into the matter.

PC Malachi Dennis, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“We believe the man pictured may have information relevant to the investigation and are appealing for him, or anyone who recognises him, to get in touch.

“Losing a phone or having it stolen can be very distressing and we’d encourage people to create strong passwords and passcodes to maximise the chances of keeping devices safe should they fall into the wrong hands.”

Anyone who recognises the man is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting crime reference 25*257035.
