Image shared after man pulls on balaclava and punches victim in Hockley

Police want to speak to the red-shirted man in this image following an assault in Nottingham city centre.

Officers were called following reports of a man acting aggressively and punching someone in Goose Gate, Hockley.

The individual reportedly walked up to and threatened several people during the incident, around 5.10pm on 15 August.

This behaviour included him allegedly offering to fight several people, shouting in their faces and flexing his muscles at them.

After these threats were ignored, he then reportedly pulled a balaclava over his head and started walking behind another man.

When the unsuspecting man turned around, the now masked individual punched him in the face – knocking the victim’s glasses off.

Police are now trying to trace down the man pictured and hope someone will recognise him.

Detective Sergeant James Robinson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The violence and aggression showcased in this incident was completely needless and unacceptable.

“Despite no provocation whatsoever and with families walking nearby, the individual involved kept acting in a threatening manner.

“This ultimately ended with him punching an unsuspecting passerby in the face and walking away.

“Due to the time and location of this incident, we know it was seen by multiple people, so if you saw something, we’d ask you to please get in touch.

“We also want to speak to the man wearing the red shirt in this picture, so would encourage him to make himself known to us, or for anyone who knows who he is to let us know too.”

Information can be reported to the police on 101, quoting incident 602 of 15 August 2025, or reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
