The incident happened on Friday 3 October, at around 11.30pm at Mojo bar in Thurland Street.

The victim, aged 30, noticed that his mobile phone had been stolen, which he had placed in his jacket pocket.

He then noticed large sums of money had been withdrawn from his bank account through the online banking app on his mobile phone.

Officers have now released an image of a man they wish to trace who could help them further their investigation. They are calling on the public’s help to identify the man.

PC Natalie Kominiak, who is investigating the incident, said:

“This incident has had a massive impact on the victim, not only personal distress but also financial.

“The victim had been saving for his holiday and that money was taken from him just before he was due to go away. He describes the incident as leaving him physically sick with stress.

“We are determined to find the person responsible and ensure they are put before the courts. Not only to provide justice for the victim but to ensure it does not happen to anyone else.

“We would also encourage people to be extra vigilant. We know that criminals are travelling across counties to carry out this type of theft.

“Mobile phones carry lots of personal details and I would encourage people to strengthen the security settings on their banking apps to avoid falling victim to this type of despicable crime.

“Since the incident was reported to us, we have carried out extensive lines of inquiry to locate the suspect but so far have not been successful.

“We are now calling on the public’s help. We have released an image of a man that could help us with our inquiries.

“Do you know the man in the image? Are you the man in the image? Please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
