Inspiring Bingham pupils cut off their hair for charity and smash fundraising target

Two inspiring pupils from Robert Miles School – part of the Nova Education Trust – have smashed their fundraising target, with both of them having their long locks chopped off for charity.

Bingham sisters, Piper and Verity Gilfillan, had 30cm of their hair cut off to donate to The Little Princess Trust in May.
Originally, eight-year-old Piper came up with the idea of donating her hair and then in sister-solidarity, five-year-old Verity decided to join her.
Piper, who has donated her hair before and attends Robert Miles Junior School, said. “I wanted to donate my hair to The Little Princess Trust as I thought it would be really kind.
“I wanted to give my hair to someone who doesn’t have any hair so that they can look and feel pretty too.”
With help from their mum Stacey – who works at Robert Miles Infant School – they set-up a Just Giving page to fundraise for the charity.
So far, they have raised an impressive £235 but are hoping to raise more.
“I am so so proud of my girls,” said Stacey. “It was so brave of Piper to cut off and donate her gorgeous hair.
“I love how Verity has shown her sister support by doing it with her.”
Verity, who is a pupil at Robert Miles Infant School, said: “I had my hair cut too so that my sister wasn’t doing it on her own.
“I wanted to give my hair to someone who has lost their hair so they can look beautiful too.”
Both sisters are very proud of their fundraising efforts and hope that the media attention can double their original target.
The Little Princess Trust is the UK’s largest charity funders of children’s cancer research and have been helping children and young people since 2006.
The have provided more than 10,000 wigs – free of charge – to young people who have lost their hair because of cancer treatment or other conditions, such as Alopecia.
Without the kindness and selflessness of people like Piper and Verity donating and fundraising, then none of this would be possible.
