Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called to reports of a house fire in the Arboretum area and early enquiries suggest it was caused by malicious ignition.
Colleagues from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue attended the blaze in Cromwell Street shortly before 5.30am today (Sunday 3 October) and safely rescued two women and a man who were inside at the time, one of whom was treated for smoke inhalation in hospital.
Detective Sergeant Adam Taylor said: “We’re working with our colleagues at the fire service to carry out a joint investigation but at the moment we do believe the blaze was started deliberately.
“We also believe it to be an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public.”
“The fire crew acted quickly in rescuing the three people and we have them to thank that there were no serious injuries.
“We’d welcome any information from members of the public so if anyone saw or heard anything suspicious in the area, please call us on 101.”
