Jail for drug dealer who stole seven bikes in West Bridgford

The plain-clothed officers in an unmarked car had seen Brecknock dealing drugs in Navigation Way next to Meadow Lane.

Stephen Brecknock, of Wilford Crescent East, The Meadows, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court and was sentenced to three years, plus 12 weeks for other offences.

It comes despite the 35-year-old being given a suspended sentence, compensation order and drug rehabilitation order earlier this year for stealing seven pedal bikes in West Bridgford in August and September 2019, possession of Class A drugs and failing to attend court hearings.

Brecknock failed to heed the warning of his suspended sentence and was caught dealing drugs when officers spotted a man acting suspiciously in an alleyway whilst out on an Operation Relentless patrol last month.

The plain-clothed officers in an unmarked car had seen Brecknock dealing drugs in Navigation Way next to Meadow Lane.

The officers stopped him and found him to be in possession of a quantity of heroin and cocaine (51 wraps) as well as a quantity of cash and mobile phones on 3 March 2020. Brecknock was arrested, interviewed, charged and remanded for possession with intent to supply Class A Drugs (Crack Cocaine and Heroin).

He was also strip-searched at Bridewell Custody Suite and further drugs were found in his underwear.

His house was searched and further drugs and dealer lists were seized.

City Centre Inspector Paul Gummer said: “I’d like to congratulate the officers who spotted Brecknock whilst out on their Operation Relentless patrol as well as Nottinghamshire Police Drugs Experts who provided expert evidence in the case.

“The operation continues to be a success and its main aim is to tackle drug dealing and anti-social behaviour in the city centre. The officers caught Brecknock red-handed and we are pleased that he is now behind bars.“The team was set up to tackle the wide variety of issues in the city centre regarding anti-social behaviour, drug use and dealing and general crime, so it’s another success story for the Operation.”He was seen at court on 2 April 2020 and jailed.
