Jail for man who sexually assaulted woman in a Nottingham hotel

A sex attacker who was caught on CCTV assaulting a woman in a Nottingham hotel corridor has been jailed.

Stefanita Mosescu, aged 42, had been on a night out in Nottingham city centre before following the victim back to a hotel in Fletcher Gate in the early hours of 3 November last year.

After spending a short time with the woman in the hotel bar, Mosescu followed her into a lift and began his assault.

Damning CCTV footage then recorded him pursuing the woman into a corridor and continuing his attack.

Mosescu, of Mercer Drive, Liverpool, was arrested a short time later and initially tried to claim what happened was consensual.

He also said that he was drunk at the time and couldn’t remember what had happened.

However, faced with overwhelming evidence against him, he later pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday was jailed for seven years and two months. He was also added to the sex offenders’ register for life.

Detective Constable Alexander Terry, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a shocking and sustained sexual assault carried out in full view of CCTV cameras.

“As other guests slept in the early hours of the morning, Mosescu repeatedly forced himself on his victim despite her very clear and persistent efforts to get away from him.

“His actions were utterly appalling and have unsurprisingly had a very significant emotional impact on his victim, who has shown remarkable courage and dignity throughout the legal process.

“I hope this very significant jail sentence provides her with some comfort, and also hope it serves as a reminder to others about the consequences of this kind of behaviour.”
