A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to two years and eight months after breaking into a young woman’s house and stealing an amount of cash. She found him hiding behind her bathroom door before he punched her and ran away with the cash.
Marcus Shelton, of no fixed address, was due to stand trial at Nottingham Crown Court but changed his plea on the first day of the trial. He was sentenced today (29 August 2018).
Police were called to an address in Hyson Green on 11 April 2017 and discovered Shelton’s fingerprints, linking him to the address. He was later arrested by officers and charged with burglary.
DC Sacha Carlisle commented: “No-one should have to go through something as traumatic as being attacked in your own home.”
“His appalling actions continued even after the crime; as Shelton both wasted police time and put the victim through even more stress by waiting until trial to then change his plea to guilty.”
