Join Rushcliffe Community Cohesion Network to have your equality voice heard

Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire (RCAN) and Rushcliffe Community Voluntary Service (RCVS) are calling on residents and community leaders to help establish and join their Community Cohesion Network and ensure voices from diverse Rushcliffe communities can be heard and influence equality policies.

Anyone, whether an individual or from a group or organisation can join the forum to help the authority shape diversity priorities and create a network of networks or super network enabling communication within and between diverse local communities in the Borough.

As a part of the Rushcliffe Community Partnership, the network was initially established from 2008 to 2012 and is now being reenergised to drive forward the community cohesion agenda in Rushcliffe.

Those joining the network would join like-minded volunteers in attending regular meetings to identify where connections can be further made with groups such as a local Disability Inclusion Group and enable and co-ordinate community cohesion activities.

They would also assist development of wider community cohesion issues in Rushcliffe and work to overcome any barriers to promoting groups’ or individuals’ accessing the support they need in their everyday lives.

Those interested in joining the network should email enquiries@rcan.org.uk or call 0115 697 5800.

As part of Rushcliffe Borough Council’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, the network co-ordinated by RCAN and RCVS is now seeking to re-establish its Equalities Scheme as a key theme in its work going forward that will meet the needs of the Borough’s diverse communities and influence the work of the local authority.

RCAN Director Jenny Kirkwood said: “Since 1924 RCAN has been working with towns and villages across the borough, providing advice and guidance to help engage social action. Our mission has not changed.

“We want to mobilise community representatives and residents from not only our local towns, but hamlets and villages too. Ensuring the voices from these vibrant and diverse rural communities are heard.

“We all have a part to play in ensuring local democracy works for all of us. Rushcliffe Community Cohesion Network is the platform to enable this.

“Our vision is a proactive network which is truly representative of the diverse communities that live and work in Rushcliffe. I would encourage any resident or group that feels they are underrepresented to join the Network and help influence and change local policy for the better.”
