An Edwalton family had a heart-warming morning when local tradesmen came to the rescue after their cat, Jack, had spent two nights stuck on a precarious branch in a neighbour’s garden.
Jack, the family’s beloved three-year-old cat had scaled a tree in their neighbour’s garden.
The family became distressed when two nights had passed and Jack remained stuck on a thin branch unable to work out a safe route back down.

Jack’s owner Phil Randall told us:
‘Our cat has been stuck up a neighbours tree since Wednesday, he’d been there for 36 hours and was in in a very bad place, he was deteriorating this morning, cold and wet and yesterday’s heavy rain and colder weather.

‘He was totally isolated on a thin branch. We were so distressed.
‘He’d been up there totally stuck for the last two nights. You couldn’t climb the tree and the branches snapped when a ladder was against them.

‘The RSPCA are so busy they hadn’t got to us yesterday and still not this morning. The Fire Brigade can’t come until the RSPCA request them.’

This morning tradesmen, Harley Godden and Dave Bagshaw who working at one of my neighbours heard about it, downed tools and built a 30ft high scaffold to rescue him.’
Phil added: “I can’t believe they went to so much trouble. It’s was amazing and we are so grateful.
One of them said to me ‘I’ve got a cat, I know how you feel, one way or another we’ll get him down’. And the neighbour who’s house they were working at also joined in building carrying the scaffolding and building the tower”
Phil is also eternally grateful to neighbour Tom Dickens who helped Harley and Dave and neighbours who took it in turns to check on Jack each night, talk to him and make sure he was ok.
Jack is safe and well.
