Lady Bay School move and new schools on Regatta Way: ‘Council’s decision is disappointing’ says West Bridgford FC

The chairman of West Bridgford Colts FC comments on the recent decision to carry out a feasibility study for new schools on Regatta Way in West Bridgford.

The location for the schools is on a field adjacent to the West Bridgford Colts FC and WBFC ground, but the need for recreational space for the school could lead to conversations between to parties if the plans go ahead.

West Bridgford Colts FC chairman Peter Stansbury said: “The council’s decision is disappointing, but we remain hopeful that Regatta Way Sports Ground will remain our home for many years to come.

“We have campaigned on this and almost seven thousand people in the local community signed a petition to save our sports ground from developers, so I hope their voices have been heard by Nottinghamshire County Council

“Our relationship with the council remains positive and we have made it clear that if they agree to a long-term extension on our lease, then we will continue to invest in the ground’s facilities and these could potentially be shared with the new schools if the development goes ahead.”

The sites considered further were land at Adbolton playing fields (site A), land at Regatta Way (site C/D) and land at Tollerton Lane, Gamston (site F).

West Bridgford Football Club’s ground is also on land near  this location, it is expected that the club and ground will continue to be part of these plans and will remain in place, this requires further engagement between the football club and the councils. The sports ground is also the home of Gedling and Sherwood Cricket Club and the Gedling Cricket Academy.
