Language teacher honoured with regional award

A language teacher from Nottingham, who speaks four languages, has been rewarded for the quality of the lessons and teaching that she provides to local children in the area.

Anna Vasco teaches extracurricular French classes to local children, through the award-winning La Jolie Ronde programmes, at local nurseries and primary schools in and around the Arnold, Carlton, and West Bridgford area of Nottingham. Anna was honoured with the much acclaimed La Jolie Ronde Licensee of the Year Award for The Midlands.

It was also a double celebration for Anna as 2019 marks 4 successful years of running her business.

On finding out that she had won this award at La Jolie Ronde’s Annual Conference in Sheffield, Anna commented, “I’m so delighted to have been presented with this award and feel truly humbled and profoundly grateful for the recognition. I wear my passion for what I do literally on my sleeve and believe in injecting this enthusiasm, and enigmatic approach for learning languages in all my classes. It is a pleasure that I can, as well as teach, inspire and educate young people that “yes” you can actually speak to others in a foreign language” she added.

Anna’s passion for languages was first ignited from the moment she was born. Having Italian parents and being bi-lingual from an early age, gave Anna the inspiration to pursue her passion for learning more languages. She graduated from University in European Languages and Business, with both French and Spanish as her chosen languages.

As part of her degree, she lived in Paris for a year, soaking up the French culture and being put in situations speaking with the natives. Anna graduated and in her first job she began working for a multinational French company where she travelled to various parts of France visiting their Head Office, in Paris, and factories throughout France – again fully conversing in French and having to adapt and learn technical French business terms. Her career journey then moved her closer to home where she worked for Boots Healthcare International in Nottingham, again being fortunate enough to use languages within the role.

As time passed Anna found it increasingly difficult to juggle family life and work and, in 2016, started looking for opportunities where she could still use her languages that would also fit around the school run and family commitments.

A good friend told Anna about Nottingham based La Jolie Ronde Languages for Children who were looking for a French speaker to take over a small number of classes teaching local children in Arnold. It was from there that Anna took the plunge and set up her own business. As word got around how good Anna’s classes were and that learning French was actually fun, she was subsequently contacted by many parents wanting their children to learn French too as well as calls from other local primary schools and nurseries.

Fast forward 4 years and today Anna runs a successful and flourishing business, teaching La Jolie Ronde French to around 100 pupils a week in schools and nurseries.

Anna says, “What natural skill to have, in conversing in a foreign language, whether it be on a social level on holiday (simply asking for something in a shop or directions) or later in life within a chosen career path. Also as a parent, I understand the importance of learning and providing young people with the best learning opportunities in life, from an early age” she added.

General Manager for La Jolie Ronde, Steve Baker says “Anna is such a deserving winner of this Award as not only has she grown her thriving and successful business, in such a short space of time, she teaches all her own classes without the help of any tutors. “She was chosen for the commitment she has shown over the last 4 years. She has great enthusiasm for the French language and her classes demonstrate a very good balance of fun and learning with the children obviously enjoying their sessions. Anna’s continued dedication and commitment to her business and to the children she teaches is a testament to Anna, not only as a fantastic teacher but also as a successful business person. We look forward to working with Anna for many years to come”, he added.

Anna was presented with her Award by La Jolie Ronde’s Founder Colette Hallam.
