The M1 in Leicestershire is closed in both directions between J22 (Markfield) and J23 (Loughborough), due to a serious collision which occurred shortly after 18:24 this evening.

‘M1 southbound has reopened.
‘M1 northbound remains closed between J22 Markfield and J23 Loughborough following the serious collision.
‘Plans to release traffic are underway.’

Emergency services including Leicestershire Police are in attendance.
National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.
Diversion Routes
Northbound traffic is advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol:
- Exit the M1 and take the 2nd exit onto the A511
- At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit on to the B591
- Travel on the B591 towards Nanpantan
- At the Ingleberry Road junction, turn left and continue on the B591
- Continue on the B591 and at the junction with the A512, turn right
- Travel on the A512 and rejoin the M1 at J23
Southbound traffic is advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol:
- Exit the M1 southbound at J23, and take the 3rd exit on to the A512
- At the Ingleberry Road, turn left on to the B591 until the junction with the B5330
- Turn right and continue on the B591 through Copt Oak
- At the roundabout with the A511, take the 1st exit on to the A511
- Travel on the A511 and rejoin the M1 southbound at J22
