Traffic was stopped on the M1 at around 11 am.
The incident was between J29 and J26 southbound M1.
Travel delays through the area of around an hour inconvenienced motorists after a lorry shed a load of tin cans on the M1 and Highways England closed two lanes this morning.
The road was closed for over three hours so that engineers could clear the area and make it safe.
