Advice from Highways England is to avoid the area.
Update 08:35 am: Recovery is now on scene removing the remains of the burned-out vehicle. The closure southbound will remain in place whilst recovery and contractors work at scene.
Highways England said at 6:30 am on Tuesday 20 October:
‘The M1 southbound J21A (A46) to J21 (M69 Leicester) traffic has been temporarily stopped because of a vehicle fire.
‘Leicestershire Fire and Rescue and Leicestershire Police are currently at scene, traffic officers and maintenance crews are on their way to the area to assist.’
‘The northbound carriageway is also closed.’
